Animals deserve our respect

I assume this is what I would call a “snare”. Snares are terrifying, indiscriminate slow killers of any animal from a hedgehog to a cat or dog and they have no right to exist in a civilised country. Chris seems to have politely left the trap where the owner set it.

I would have nicked it, dead rabbit and all. Campaigners have worked for years to get a blanket ban on snares and the only people who still openly support their use seem to be those on shooting estates with game birds.

Animals have a comparable IQ to that of younger human children, and every insect and animal alive wants to live as much as the keenest human. You could say that, with the IQ of a younger human, animals avoid being capable of the worst deceitful and selfish behaviour that adult humans produce. I find all this worthy of respect from us, quite apart from the moral responsibility that man has towards those he shares the planet with. So far, instead of respecting other species, we have tried to obliterate them cruelly wherever we have encroached on their territory, because they are inconvenient and we are lazy.

Anyone using any kind of death trap on other species, please consider how you yourself would suffer if the trap were your size, because that’s what you’re doing to others.
