Anomaly in byelaws

THERE is a grotesque anomaly at the heart of the proposed Bexhill Seashore byelaws.

On one hand these seek to protect beach users from the “annoyance” of people harmlessly fishing, bait digging, horse riding, playing games, using charcoal-fire barbecues during the day and holding parties of more than 15 people with music.

On the other hand they dedicate over half the total length of Herbrand Walk beach to the launching of jet-skis, which are recognised by everone except their riders and Rother District Council’s working group to be one of the noisiest, fastest and most dangerous forms of water transport yet devised.

Use of these machines causes serious annoyance, not only to other beach users but also to all residents within earshot.

They need a specialised launch site, as exists at Eastbourne, and they have no place at the Herbrand Walk family beach with such restricted road access.
