Better Brookfield

IT was refreshing to see how quickly the council responded to our complaints about the paths at Brookfield Park (Gazette, March 3).

Temporary repairs were carried out to some areas on Friday.

One can only hope that the permanent solution will not be too far away, as the temporary repairs do not cover all areas and would appear to be very soft and easily damaged with the usage the park is designed for.

As to the disabled access issue, perhaps the spokeswoman for the council should hire a wheelchair and try going around the park in it – very uncomfortable if indeed possible, especially if the walkways into the park were used and where the paths narrow, which includes every path into the play areas.

Unfortunately, it is a sad fact of life that some children have to use a wheelchair, as do some disabled adults with children, who would not be able to use all these areas of the park

As for Brookfield being a country park did no one point out at the design stage that Littlehampton is a seaside town?

It would appear to me that where the paths are concerned this is another case of something looking good on paper and theoretically working well, but in practice is not fit for purpose.
