Bin scheme has rubbish start

It is interesting to note on this morning of significant changes to the Rother waste contract how at least the population of my village, Robertsbridge, have responded to the overhaul of the collection system. In Robertsbridge the new style collection rota starts off today, Monday, so on a quick walk around a few streets this morning, I saw that some people had put out black bins, some brown bins and some green bins, (I did not bother to investigate what was in those green bins, whether the old green waste or the new other recyclables. Others, no doubt hedging their bets, had put all their bins out in the hope that at least one would be emptied!

Also I noted that most of the available public litter bins had been stuffed with bags of refuse, perhaps indicating that overnight certain residents had taken fright and resorted to dumping their rubbish in public bins.

Who knows what has happened as the collections have taken place in the village today. No doubt we will hear.

As a final point though about the new regime, why is it that Rother/Keir have decided to suspend at least for those in Robertsbridge all collections of general recyclables for a whole month? Our last such collection was on 17 June and our next will not be until 15 July!
