Bonfire Boyes thank town for support

Battel Bonfire Boyes would like to thank the people of the town for their continued support throughout 2013. The homecoming in 2012 of the Bonfire to it’s proper position on the Abbey Green was followed up this year by another amazing, traditional Battel Bonfire night. It was fantastic during the day to see so many youngsters taking part in our children’s procession and making such a great effort dressing up to wow the judges in the fancy dress competition. This year we had more guys entered in the guy competition than we have had for a many years which was wonderful to see. Many thanks to our Town Mayor, Richard Bye and our BBB president, Robert Emeleus for taking on the very difficult task of judging. We have plans to make next years competitions even better. Thanks to Jempsons for holding their monthly collection in October on behalf of BBB. We received £118 towards the bonfire from them with great thanks. If other local businesses would like to make a donation please contact me: [email protected]

As I’m sure you know we have a team of volunteer collectors out on Bonfire Night and all the money they collect is distributed by us to local good causes and charities. The collectors do an amazing job and this year 17 people collected a total of £2634.25. As usual £400 of this has been allocated to our sending £5 each in a Christmas card to Battle senior citizens. Donations have also been allocated to The Royal British Legion, St Johns Ambulance, St Michaels Hospice, Raynet, Battle Bell Ringers, Battle Museum and the Kit Wilson Trust. This collection can make a real difference to local people; the smaller size of the crowds now has seen a significant reduction to our collection amount so when you see a collector on Bonfire night please give generously so we can continue to help local people in need. Although Battel Bonfire has been scaled back to enable our return to the Green many of our costs have not decreased proportionally. In fact some have significantly increased and new fees have arisen that didn’t exist when we had to leave the Green. Our fund raisers work tirelessly during the year to ensure we can fund Battel Bonfire year in year out. Please look out for our events during the year; we love to see everyone having a good time! With that in mind we will see in 2014 with a New Years Eve Party at Langton Hall. Please come and join us and help get Bonfire 2014 off with a bang.
