Bridge negotiation
THE formal application for the new Sainsbury’s superstore (Gazette, April 5) gives Arun District Council a unique opportunity to negotiate for the provision of a long overdue pedestrian/cycleway bridge over the railway, immediately east of Mill Lane Bridge, Rustington.
A lightweight steel structure, hopefully fabricated in Littlehampton, would connect the existing pedestrian/cycleway that extends from Sainsbury’s to Mill Lane, southwards over the railway to the Mill Lane cul-de-sac.
This would obviate use of the present dangerous crossing point at Mill Lane Bridge, which is a particular hazard for Angmering School pupils, and would provide instead a safe crossing point with good visibility at the Windmill public house.
