Bursaries for new Collyer’s students

Collyer’s recently awarded bursaries to 9 new students, in recognition of their outstanding results at school.

Bursaries were awarded to a student from each of the key local partner schools and to students achieving top grades from schools north, south, east and west of Horsham.

Sam Barby (formerly of Tanbridge House), Ali Hamad (Warden Park in Cuckfield), Rowan Medcalf (Lingfield Notre Dame), Tara Rawson and Holly Schofield (who shared the prize for Millais) Amelia Smith (The Towers in Upper Beeding); Andrew Stuckey (The Weald), Bethany Williams (Oriel in Crawley) and Edwin Wraith (Forest) were each presented with a cheque.

Collyer’s Principal, Sally Bromley explained: “We felt it was important to recognise the outstanding work of our excellent partner schools, by rewarding some of our new students for their academic excellence in year 11. We also thought we should reward students coming to us from farther afield, as we do attract students from right across the region. I’m sure the money will be put to good use to help support their education or extra-curricular activities while at Collyer’s.”

Ali Hamad was extremely pleased: “I would like to thank all of the staff from Warden Park for their immense work in helping me achieve my potential - their skills and help are unrivalled. I would also like to thank Collyer’s for this generous contribution, it was completely out of the blue and came as a welcome surprise!”

Holly Schofield added: “I feel very lucky to be sharing this with Tara, and would like to say a massive thank you to all my teachers at Millais for giving me amazing opportunities and investing so much time into helping us all prepare for our exams. I am so grateful to Collyer’s for this bursary, and look forward to the rest of what has begun as a dynamic, exciting year.”

Edwin Wraith, who enjoyed successful results at Forest, said: “I’m really happy to have been awarded this bursary - I’ve settled well into Collyer’s and this will be sure to make my time here a lot easier. I’m already looking forward to the next couple of years. Thank you!”

Amelia Smith was delighted: “Thank you to Collyer’s, it’s very generous and I will put the bursary towards my further education. I’ve had a great start here and I’m really enjoying my A levels. Thank you to my school teachers at the Towers for helping me to achieve GCSE grades that I am very proud of.”

Horsham’s College of Richard Collyer or Collyer’s has been in Horsham for almost 500 years and currently has approximately 1,700 full-time students and 500 adult education evening students. As a top performing institution, Collyer’s has Beacon status and enjoys an ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted.

Sally Bromley told the students: “You’ve all made a great start to life at Collyer’s and I’m confident that your individual success stories can continue into advanced level and beyond. You are a credit to the excellent schools you attended and I’m sure that they are extremely proud of your outstanding GCSE achievements!”
