Bus services must be kept

Back in August 2011 when Stagecoach took over running the buses in East Sussex they reduced the Rye Harbour to Rye Town service by 50% to one bus an hour and it seems that the same could happen again, by what ESCC are saying.

The council tell us that they need to save money on the routes that they apparently part fund, by reducing what they call ‘off peak’ services, in reality between 9am and 5pm every day and Rye Harbour Village could lose 4 buses in and out of the town centre and no buses on Sundays.

This would mean one bus every two hours for most of each day.

This will severely restrict the only access many people have of getting into town particularly the elderly, frail, and isolated, for doctors and other important appointments.

Then of course there is the Thursday market, other events in town and those who need to travel further on buses or trains.

The buses give access to day trippers visiting the nature reserve all week long and people staying on the caravan park.

The existing service must continue to ensure the only lifeline for many people in the village.

ESCC and Stagecoach this is one service not to change, please support the community of Rye Harbour Village
