Bypass no solution

HOW refreshing to read the letter by Dr Peter Slowe (Gazette, August 12), opposing yet another Arundel bypass, which would be an act of environmental desecration in a beautiful area. I agree with him entirely.

Years back, the old Arundel bridge took all the coastal traffic, then the existing bypass proved adequate – now there is a clamour for yet another bypass.

Where do we stop?

How many new roads do we construct?

They will always fill up – remember the euphoria when the M25 was completed, and look at the situation now.

We should perhaps realise we do not own our environment, but are only guardians for future generations.

As a relevant point, how many firms start and finish work at the same time, when a variation of possibly one hour might lessen the traffic build-up?

Lastly, it might help to remember the wartime slogan – is your journey really necessary? And at that particular time?
