Cannabis find in game is a fright

WHAT an odd set of morals some parents seem to have nowadays. You have a story (Gazette, April 15) about a chap buying a second-hand video game for his four-year-old son and, to his horror, discovering a bag of cannabis inside.

How commendable of him to report this to the Gazette.

However, it does seem rather strange to me that Dad sees nothing wrong with getting for his little lad an age 16-plus "Fight Night" video game, featuring extreme violence, which the boy was encouraged to take upstairs to play on his own. Do the parents think the classification of films/games serves no purpose?

Or perhaps they just don't care what the child watches.

Strange, too, that your reporter made no mention of this.

The tale continues that the shop, Blockbuster, will be carrying out a "full investigation" into the claim that cannabis was present in the video packaging.

No mention of whether the investigation will include an inquiry as to their sale of adult video games for the use of a four-year-old?

Well, we'll probably never know because, strangely, the story ends abruptly in mid-sentence.

Perhaps your editorial staff were as confused as me and just gave up on the piece. Funny old world!

The missing words merely stated that Blockbuster's spokesman refused to comment.

As for Blockbuster selling adult video games "for the use of a four-year-old", staff at the store could not have known this particular game was being bought for a child, because he was not with his father at the time.
