The festival, which is taking place at the Anchor Hotel on Market Square is running until May 11.

Last week as part of Female Brewers Week the pub is championed ale made by women and in the final fortnight it is serving award-winning ales.

The pub will serve eight beers alongside a number of others hand-selected from independent brewers across the UK. Two of those are Aromantica, which has a sweet nutty flavour, with aromas of lime and passion fruit and Heavenly Blonde described as ‘packed with zesty, super-refreshing tropical fruits’.

Others include South Town, which was launched last month and is the result of a collaboration between Camden Town Brewery and Adnams.

It is described as a red ale with aromas of peach, lychee and tropical fruits.

Also flying the flag for hybrid ales is DNA New World IPA brewed by East Anglian brewers Charles Wells and Delaware’s the Dogfish Head brewery.

That is described as having a toasty nutty start followed by a highly hopped citrus finish.

Graeme Jarrett, general manager of the Anchor Hotel said: “This year’s festival is completely different from anything that’s come before.

“We’ve split the festival into four distinct weeks to give our guests the chance to taste the best stand-out beers from all across the UK. We’ve also teamed up with the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA), to ensure guests get the chance to try as many different beers as possible.”
