Changes do not pose safety risk

How easy it is to put a biased slant on things in an effort to get your point across.

Steve Mann asked us to consider several questions in his letter to the Observer on Friday, August 12.

My answer to all of his questions is a resounding YES. But wait a moment, is he really suggesting that these things will change with the introduction of driver operated door closing?

I suggest that you read the letter sent to rail union boss Mick Cash by Andy Bindon, human resources director GTR on August 8, which sets out the company’s case, including the safety issues, an extract of which is as follows:

“The Rail Safety Standards Board (RSSB) has stated that no increased risk from properly implemented Driver Only Operation has been detected in any research carried out by the RSSB or its predecessor organisation ‘Rail Safety’.”

There is much more on safety in this letter and all of the points raised by Mr Mann have been guaranteed, along with many others in an eight point plan. I urge you Mr Mann and all those interested in the real facts in this dispute, to research this letter online and draw your own conclusions.

The type of misinformation peddled by Mr Mann is extremely unhelpful.
