Charities benefit from Village Day

Following a very successful Village Day event in June, cheque donations totalling £2,400 have been presented to a number of local charities in Storrington.

This was an opportunity to say thank you to these organisations that do so much in the Storrington community and to use surplus funds from the community Village Day to provide them with some practical help. The following donations were made:

SPLASH - Village Day provides funding for the ‘Generate’ Youth Club that meets in the Methodist Church hall. This further donation will help towards Leadership Training projects at the club.

2464 Squadron Storrington Air Training Corps - The ATC is a very active Corps in Storrington and does a fantastic job at Village Day helping with car parking. The donation will be used for training purposes.

The Hooper & Downer Educational Foundation - The donation will be used by the Foundation to help support the educational needs of local children and young people from needy backgrounds.

Storrington in Bloom - This year Storrington was awarded a Silver Gilt medal in the South East in Bloom competition. The donation will help the organisers extend their community involvement next year by encouraging young people to create floral wheelbarrows to be displayed around the village.

On behalf of the Storrington Village Day committee, its Chairman, Rotarian Norman Boyland, thanked the recipient organisations and their leaders, many of whom are volunteers, for the work they do with young people from the community.

He said: “It is great to see money raised at this very popular community event going straight back into supporting our young people in Storrington.”

Norman also thanked the events’ organiser - Rotary Club of Storrington & Pulborough District and Chanctonbury Lions Club - and principal sponsors: Fowlers Estate Agents, Waitrose, Caffyns and Yeomans whose help in various ways enables the committee to invest up-front in bands and other attractions.

The committee wants to see as many groups and organisations as possible becoming involved and exhibiting at next year’s event which will be held on Saturday 21st June.
