Collyer’s Tanzania project receives SAS donation

Mike Branfield, head of house, Sally Miller, deputy head of faculty for social sciences and Joe Brock, head of faculty for mathematics and science at Collyer’s and Tanzania Coordinator for the prestigious Institute of Physics, were last week presented with a laptop by Lloyd Everard from SAS Business Group.

Sally Miller was very pleased to receive the laptop: “Thank you to SAS for their very generous donation. It is intended that we use the laptop for the new Nutrition and Science Centre at Mvomero Secondary School, which is funded by Collyer’s and The Jephcott Trust.”

Along with the Solar Charger donated by SAS last year, Joe and his team hope to be able to use the laptop for internet access via the phone network, thus opening a world of knowledge to the pupils studying in Tanzania.

Joe added: “This school is particularly deserving as it has proved that it is capable of using and looking after equipment.

“The previous laptop donated by SAS has been used extensively, not only by the school, but also to record the sharing of it resources with its partner schools in the area. The school has also used basic science kit in the past to win a national competition, which is a major achievement for a poor rural school.”

Collyer’s Principal, Dr Jackie Johnston said: “We are hugely proud of the incredible work of Joe Brock and his team in Tanzania.

“This is going to make a real difference to these pupils’ lives at Mvomero Secondary School and we thank SAS for their continuing and generous support of the Tanzania project.”
