Cost of EU exit considerably less

'˜Brexit' is short-hand for '˜British exit from the European Union'; the referendum asked '˜Remain in... or Leave the European Union'; '˜Liberal Democrat' means belief in freedom from authority and promotion of democracy. Which of those doesn't Stephen Hardy understand?

Our (supposedly) representative MPs should long ago have ‘engaged brain’ and allowed an open and honest debate prior to a binding referendum on our relationship with the EU: Should we maintain our subservient status quo; reform; half-leave (EFTA, EEA, Custom Union) or fully leave (WTO)?

They failed to ‘engage brain’, relied on dodgy opinion polls and contemptuously failed to prepare an Exit Plan - likewise Article 50. Our MPs lost. The people won.

Liberal Democrat Stephen should be celebrating, but instead (despite Theresa May conceding some leeway to remainers) remains incensed (24/2/17), demanding these self-same disengaged MPs overturn the will of the people through another ‘deciding’ referendum.

As this is a 50:50 question, possibly resulting in a draw, there will be a third definitive referendum. Stephen doubtless supports EU Commissioner Barroso’s “they must go on voting... until they get it right”.

With the self-protectionist, economically declining EU/Eurozone becoming increasingly insignificant to the changing global economy, it is patently as much in the EU’s interests in securing mutually beneficial exit terms, as it is Britain’s.

These will assuredly come, for it is businesses (not the autocratic EU political elite) which create jobs and taxable wealth.

Our EU membership comes with colossal liabilities (£20bn p/a gross). The ‘cost’ of independence however will be considerably less.

As Stephen is well versed in politics and law, he knows the politicians’ “£350m NHS” slogan was an ‘invitation to treat... and read the EU gross liability small print’.

Indeed, the Advertising Standards Authority was impotent as political propaganda (pro and con) may mislead and lie with impunity.
