Cranleigh Prep boy U13 Biathlon leader

Hot on the heels of his recent success in the SE Regional Biathlon, Piers Bowden won the SE Schools Biathlon on Saturday, representing Cranleigh Prep.

There was strong representation from Whitgift, as well as entrants from Reigate Grammar, Glyn School and Maidstone Grammar, to name a few. A cold afternoon in Kent saw Piers take to the track for the one mile run. The top three quickly broke away and Piers moved into the lead half way through the second lap. He was not alone though and after three and a half laps of the track, there was a neck and neck sprint for the line over the last 200m, between Piers and Samuel Painter from Rainham Mark Grammar School, which had the assembled crowd roaring with approval!

It was effectively a dead heat but, on the manual timing, Piers was judged to have been in second place by 0.1 sec, in a time of 5.32.81. Piers therefore headed to the pool with a point to prove.

The 100m swim took place over two heats and Piers, quite literally, left the rest of the field in his wake.

He equalled his PB of 1m01sec to secure 1st place overall. Piers is ranked No.1 for the U13 boys category in the British Modern Biathlon Championships which are taking place in Solihull on the 1st December.
