Cyclists might be having a whale of a time –see his letter here– but their fellow pedestrians have not been so well blessed.

With roads deserted it might have been expected that thoughtful cyclists would stop menacing pedestrians by their illegal use of the pavement, especially as they should now be respecting the rules of social distancing; but many are still sadly living up to their reputation as the most selfish and irresponsible group of road users.

When asked to divert on to the now virtually empty road, where they should be in the first place, they either show incomprehension or shower abuse.

It would be great to think if when traffic levels returned to normal that cyclists would learn some manners and start to show some consideration for other road users, so pedestrians could walk the pavements with the degree of safety they once enjoyed.
