‘Dangerous’ turning has a sort of roundabout solution

MUCH has been reported recently in the Observer on the subject of yellow lines and parking restrictions in and around Battle; all, according to ESCC Highways Department, to make the roads hereabouts safer.

If that is what concerns the Highways Department, why don’t they do something about the horrendously dangerous exit onto the A21 from Sedlescombe for vehicles then turning right to Battle and beyond?

The situation at the moment is that often these vehicles, once in the centre of the A21, cannot see the fast-moving traffic approaching from Hastings and continuing on, because their view is completely obscured by vehicles, also from Hastings, turning right into Sedlescombe.

Personally, I have witnessed one accident and a couple of near-misses, and am sure others have had similar experiences.

The simple answer is, that traffic exiting Sedlescombe and heading to Battle and beyond, be directed left and then to turn right in front of Blackbrooks Garden Centre – in effect creating an elongated roundabout.

I will be sending a copy of this letter to Mr Rupert Clubb, Director of Economy, Transport and Environment, at County Hall, Lewes, BN7 1UE, and hope that any Observer reader with similar views, will do so as well.
