Daughter wants to find her dad

I am a single parent to two children, one who is 17 on October 28 this year.

The reason for this letter is I’m struggling a little as I don’t know where to start.

My daughter is looking for her father and all I can remember is he used to live in Bexhill. He will be in his early to mid-40s now. His name, as far as I remember, is John Saunders.

He would have been about 23 when we met and by accident, I fell pregnant (not that I would change a thing).

I had my daughter in Barrow-in-Furness on October 28, 1999 and a week later, I had a call from the hospital saying John had been in touch.

With a little dutch courage that evening, I remember ringing the number the hospital had given me and it was a number for a Bexhill mental institute.

I was very scared and hung up, and never heard anything again. As you can imagine, now I am a little older, I wish I had phoned back or even kept the number as now my daughter would like to find out where her father is, if he is still alive. As would I, as we never had a bad word to say about each other.

My name is Clare Parkin and I’m 39 years old. His name is John Saunders and he is in his 40s. His nickname is Donk.

We met in Ulverston, Cumbria, with my friend Ann McMeekin. Her sister is called Kathleen McMeekin.

I can’t remember Kathleen’s partner’s name but he was John’s friend.

John was bald and always wore a beanie hat and had a waist-length, bright orange bubble jacket at the time. He was at least 6ft.
