‘Disappointed’

I WAS disappointed to see the usual misinformation about the A27 in the story (Gazette, March 29) “PM’s speech renews hope for Arundel’s bypass”.

Arundel, of course, already has a bypass, clearly marked as such on all road maps, and it worked quite well until the Patching/Crossbush stretch was massively enlarged in 1991, grinding to a halt at the traffic lights.

All that is needed is to change the Crossbush layout with a carefully landscaped underpass or flyover to take the Lyminster road, and then widen and strengthen the existing A27/Arundel bypass, with a bridge or subterranean path for pedestrians from the station.

No wrecking of the beautiful countryside with more road building, there is no need for it whatsoever.

This is the (relatively) cheap, environmentally-sound and blindingly obvious solution.

Oh, and why do we not hear more about the ghastly difficulties on the A27 at Broadwater/Charmandean? Why not start there, where the traffic is far, far worse than at Crossbush?

Nothing to do with an MP and the Duke of Norfolk being residents of Arundel of course, nothing at all.
