Does anybody else remember silkworms at Eastbourne’s old Bobby’s department store?

Thinking of the past, regarding Bobby’s Department Store, I was wondering if anybody else in Eastbourne remembers seeing the Silk demonstration held at Bobby’s in the 50s.

I remember my mother taking me to Bobby’s as a schoolboy to see silkworms feeding on mulberry leaves, creating their cocoons.

The cocoons were then dyed and spun off, the coloured thread was then woven into bright and wonderfully soft material.

The whole demonstration had a lasting memory on me, and I am sure was the start of my love of nature and the wonder of it all.
