Dog owners shouldclean up their act

I WISH to send a message to those dog owners in Rye, who think it’s okay to walk their dog through the town, usually in the early morning or late at night, and who allow their dog to defecate on the pavement and then walk away without cleaning up.

It is not okay to behave like this. If the owners of the businesses outside whose premises this mess is deposited do not clean it up, then, more often than not, it is trodden into their premises on the shoes of unwitting customers.

I would urge anyone who witnesses these dog owners behaving in such a manner to report them to the council.

I believe there is a maximum penalty of £1,000 for allowing a dog to foul a public space.

I am an owner of a business in Rye and have lost count of the number of times that I, or a colleague, have had to clean up after these thoughtless, irresponsible, loathsome, ignorant individuals.

You know who you are and you give responsible dog owners a bad name.
