Don’t let it close

I VISITED The Windmill Entertainment Centre on Saturday, August 31 and thoroughly enjoyed Bobby Socks – a mixture of 50/60s music.

I am a member of several societies who use the Windmill, and I also support many live shows and the cinema.

It would be a travesty if we lost this wonderful theatre.

The seats are comfortable, the staff always very helpful, prices are reasonable and there is plenty of parking.

I am concerned that the new bandstand/performance stage could be built at the loss of our theatre. It has been widely publicised in the Gazette that, once again, the Windmill is under threat.

Where is the support for our theatre? Where is the support for a new digital projector so that we are able to show new films on release? Why can’t the Littlehampton Town Council and Arun District Council, who are contributing thousands of pounds towards the new performance stage project, contribute to the facilities we need at the Windmill?

How many times a year can an outside venue be used? Certainly not to house shows by local companies such as Copacabana, Hi De Hi, Sherry Lorraine, Godspell, Angmering School of Dance and not forgetting the fabulous panto every January – which always plays to full houses.

These companies are full of local people creating value for money while enjoying a worthwhile hobby, young and old alongside each other.

Please, we need to fight – again – for our theatre/cinema.

There seems to be silence from the councils and Inspire Leisure as to the expiry of the lease on the land and building.

If it closes it will be like our hospital – gone forever.
