Drivers victimised?

AT just after 8am Sunday, July 31, one or more traffic wardens came creeping up Queen Street, Littlehampton.

He or they then proceeded to book all the cars that were parked on the double yellow lines on the corner of Queen Street and York Road.

The owners of these cars are all residents of the area and literally have nowhere else to park at night.

On weekdays, the cars have normally all gone by 8am as the owners have gone off to work.

This area of Littlehampton is very quiet and Queen Street is virtually a dead end road with no through traffic at all.

The only time that the area ever gets busy is when the nearby school pupils are coming or going.

At this time on a Sunday morning during the school holidays I can only think that the reason the warden(s) to come down was to rack up points on their own personal incentive scheme and for blatant profiteering on behalf of Arun District Council.

To antagonise the motorist in the above way does nothing for the traffic warden’s image and it is no wonder that they are generally held in such low esteem by the average motorist.

Having said that, some traffic wardens do do some good by ensuring that traffic is kept flowing in busy areas, by booking cars that are causing an obstruction or have overstayed their time in parking bays, thus depriving other users from using them.

It is a shame that our wardens cannot find something better to do with their time on a Sunday, which is normally a day of rest.

In case you are wondering, my car was not one of those that received a ticket.
