Dropped kerb issue

I WAS told by a Rother District Council spokesperson about a week ago that there would be build-outs and dropped kerbs either side of the Clock Tower on West Parade, Bexhill, for disabled people to use when crossing the road.

However, there are now marks in the road, both sides, about 100 yards east of the toilets, and more marks, both sides, opposite Normandy Court, about 100 yards west of the Clock Tower.

I assume these show where East Sussex Country Council’s highways department will put the crossings. At present there are no other marks along the whole of West Parade, and as only three crossing points were approved, it is obvious there will not be two by the Clock Tower, if any.

I also asked for dropped kerbs in Egerton Road, giving access to the museum, park and children’s centre. East Sussex County Council has written to me saying no resources have been allocated for the construction of any new crossing points.

The large signpost to the museum and Egerton Park by the clock tower has been removed, and the only pointer now is the “standing stone” sign which is much too small to be seen by car and coach drivers. How can the council expect more visitors to these amenities like this?
