Dualling the A27 will not help Eastbourne’s traffic problems

Caroline Ansell is an MP for Eastbourne and her mandate is to do her best for that town whereas Maria Caulfield is the MP for the area in which any new A27 would be built.

Maria Caulfield has already stated her opposition to a new dual carriageway and supports further improvements to the existing road.

The road is no longer a danger area any more so than any other road in Sussex due to works already done and the current plans will improve safety and traffic flow.

Any user of this road, especially to and from Eastbourne, can see that the traffic jams are at the two ends of the road -–Southerham roundabout and the A22/A27 interchange.

Dualling the road will not avoid these problems or help with access into or out of Eastbourne.

The planned routes for a new dual carriageway would make it devastatingly visible from the South Downs National Park and would lead through many ancient landscapes, woods, Roman roads and the habitats for many, some rare, creatures and plants. The environmental damage would be horrendous and with extra traffic, emissions would soar.

The area around Wootton can be traced back through the Domesday Book to Roman times and this new road would destroy some of the houses, buildings and homes in this area amongst many others.
