I thought I should write publicly to thank all the teaching staff and senior management team at the Cavendish Secondary School in Eastbourne.

They have gone the extra mile to provide support and guidance during the last few months. My son’s form teacher has contacted all the children in her class by phone several times to check how they are getting on, what a lovely thing to do.

Any correspondence that I have made has been swiftly replied to both by phone and email, and any concerns I have had as a worried parent of an often less than enthusiastic 13-year-old have been met with compassion and reassurance.

It is too easy for the media to perpetuate the false narrative that these hard working professionals are shirkers and have it easy. What utter nonsense! I for one have a renewed appreciation for the huge amount of work that teachers have, as well as the expertise that is needed to provide stimulating learning environments for our children. Their job does not end when our children finish their school day. Many hours are spent behind the scenes and during school holidays when they themselves have lives and families, to adapt to the many challenges that are presented through policy changes and Government directives.

Thank you teachers and support staff, without you there would be no education system. Our children are privileged to have access to free education when so many others in the world do not have this opportunity.
