As many of us know, there are County Council elections on May 6, this will give the voters of Eastbourne the opportunity to choose who represents them at County Hall.

Please can I make a heartfelt plea that all candidates from whichever party they represent remain kind to each other, only deal in facts and stick with the policies that relate to East Sussex County Council.

I have been struck by the unity of all the political parties here in Eastbourne as we have had to deal with the Covid pandemic.

The town’s MP, Caroline Ansell, the leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, David Tutt and the Mayor, Steve Wallis have all shown great leadership and led by example over the last 12 difficult months.

Please do not let all this goodwill unravel as we approach May.

Sadly, there have been a couple of letters printed recently from a Mr Whitlock and a Dr Ballard attacking those parties that they do not support, whilst in Caroline Ansell’s piece last week she could not resist a side swipe at the Liberal Democrat administration.

I feel that the people of the town could do without the political point scoring and would benefit from good, honest, and factual debate as we decide who to vote for in May.

Please all, candidates, and voters, remain kind to each other.
