The Story Writing Competition was launched last term, to encourage local primary school children to let their imaginations loose and to enjoy writing stories.

There was tremendous feedback from teachers and parents of all the schools who took part, who reported that not only the girls but even their boys who did not have a strong reputation for handing in any homework were getting stuck into writing stories for this competition.

Their imaginations were stimulated by the installation into their schools of ‘Faery Doors’ - miniature coloured wooden doors hand-made by David. At Kingslea an immediate enthusiasm for writing letters to the faeries living behind the doors began, each one carefully replied to. Elsewhere a Faery Story reading evening was held with parents invited and hot chocolate under the faery lights for all.

‘I Believe in Faeries’ is owned and run by David, and produces hand-made Faery-related items to decorate the house and garden, bringing a little magic into every home. He organised the competition to help encourage all primary school pupils to develop a love of writing.

The overall competition winner was voted for by the 4 competition judges, including Mr Ollie McAteer, Chief Reporter at the West Sussex County Times, Mrs D. McKie, former Head Teacher and Inspector of Education, Caroline Coxon, freelance writer of screenplays, children’s stories, web content and corporate publicity material and Gill Evaroa, Editor of Mid Sussex & Joint Editor of Brighton/Hove Family Grapevines, a really useful family directory.

The Presentation will be at morning assembly with prizes for all the finalists from each year group and the overall winner to be announced.
