Ewhurst Village Hall bursts at the seams for annual Autumn Show

The lovely weather in recent weeks undoubtedly contributed to the impressive display of flowers and vegetables.

Some 55 members of the community together submitted more than 300 entries across the horticultural, floral art, photography, home fare and childrens’ classes.

The Norris Cup for most points in the vegetables and fruit section will be engraved with a new name this year, that of Carole Chadwick, who is still a relative newcomer to both the village and the society.

Regular winners of this cup had better watch out – Carole is here to stay!

Club stalwart, Richard Munford, won the Geoff McQuire shield for the most points in the flowers and pot plants section, while the Dilley cup for the best exhibit in this section went to Jane Gibson.

The Spiers trophy for the most points in the floral art section was awarded to Heather Dunlop.

The Spence cup for the most points in the home fare classes was awarded to Catherine van’t Riet.

The Cranleigh Masons kindly donated prize money again to the show, the two recipients being Andrew Lock (club chairman), who won £10 for the best vegetable and 91-year old Olive Lewis, who won £10 for the best bloom.

Olive’s presence at the show was in doubt because of an injury the day before but, thankfully, she rallied and brought no less than 17 entries on the day.

Our next club event is a talk by the TV horticulturist, Pippa Greenwood, in the village hall on 1st October – not to be missed!
