Excellent day that helped charities

EARLIER this year, the Gazette featured a letter commenting unfavourably on the Littlehampton Regatta arrangements for charity stallholders, although others afterwards commented favourably.

The Rotary Club of Littlehampton would like to take this opportunity of thanking the town council and its hard-working officers for providing local residents with such an excellent day at the annual Town Show on Saturday '“ great all-round entertainment and excellent facilities for many local organisations.

Rotary had the opportunity of running a tombola and a book stall in the large charity marquee and we are grateful that the council provides so many charities, free of charge, with this excellent opportunity of raising vital funds for their ongoing work.

I would also like to thank the residents of Littlehampton, and the many visitors to the town, for supporting our stalls '“ their support resulted in our raising just over 300.

One of the Rotary International programmes we were raising funds for is our ongoing campaign to eradicate polio from the world. We have been immunising the children of the world with the polio vaccine since 1985 and have reduced the number of cases each year by over 99.60 per cent and the number of countries in which polio is endemic from 126 to just four today.

The funds we raised will enable Rotary to immunise another 567 children against polio, and so bring forward the day when the world can be declared polio-free.

So, my thanks for a very enjoyable and successful day are due to the town council and the officers and of course the residents of Littlehampton for their kind generosity.
