Farlington girls to exhibit at royal society of British Artists Annual Exhibition

Georgia Hamp and Emma Christopherson, recent A-level art and design students from Farlington, are through to the final stage of the Royal Society of British Artists competition. The competition aims to find the most outstanding work by final year A-level students from around the country.

The girls will have the title ‘RBA Scholar’ next to their work at the show and will be invited to attend a private viewing at the Mall Galleries in March next year. Emma received her certificate from Susi Beale of National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) at Farlington Prize-Giving Evening on Friday 8th November 2013.

The NADFAS John Ingram Memorial Prize will be awarded for an exceptional piece of work. The Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition shows the best of contemporary representational painting, sculpture, printmaking and drawing.

The girls’ work was selected from their A-level work in the summer by Mrs Beale who said, “The work at Farlington is in a class of its own.”

Emma, who has just started studying History of Art at The University of Warwick, had her work, ‘Surrey Diptych’, selected and Georgia, now at The University of Nottingham studying Architecture, had her ‘London Cityscape’ chosen for the show.

Ms Louise Higson, Headmistress, says, ‘We are very proud of Georgia and Emma; they are a credit to the school. I must also praise the work of our art teachers, Mr Gibbs and Mrs Sprey, who supported the girls during their A-level.’
