Farlington saves the clock

The concert featuring Farlingtonic Choir, with singers, instrumentalists and dancers from Farlington School, was held in aid of the church clock’s restoration fund.

The packed church was filled with music ranging from Albinoni’s ‘Adagio’ and Handel’s ‘Zadok the Priest’ to a lively compilation of Cole Porter standards.

There were also outstanding performances from Alex Thomas on violin, Katriina Boosey on recorder and Hugh Crook on organ as well as delightful items from Farlington’s Aristoskatz choir, Tudor dancers and chamber musicians.

Christopher Loveless, Vicar at St Margaret’s, said: “What I love about Farlington’s house style is that the performers combine astonishing technical excellence – a lot of the music we have heard this evening is very complex and difficult to perform – with a constant reminder that music is supposed to be fun.

“Music is supposed to make you lift your head, tap your foot, smile. We’ve heard a very wide range of music, from baroque to songs from the shows, but it has all been hugely enjoyable, without that rather grim seriousness which so often infects the concert hall.

“The fact that we raised nearly £1300 is absolutely fantastic and will mean the clock restoration will be able to go ahead.”
