Financing the Covid-19 pandemic

To its credit, the Government has recognised the need to support people and businesses financially through the Covid-19 pandemic. To do this, it seems that it has decided to borrow from some opaque organisation known as ‘The Market’, thereby passing on a massive debt to future generations. In a similar crisis, a successful company would turn to its shareholders to show confidence in the business by providing funds directly. It would therefore appear that this government has no confidence in UK plc or it would be asking its stakeholders, aka the taxpayer, to pay for these essential services.
