Fine instructor

I was upset to read the article regarding the Crossbush residents’ objections to a riding school being run at Jewels Stables (Gazette, September 5).

What on earth have they got to complain about? The school area itself is situated well away from the stable yard entrance and it is nowhere near any houses – in fact it is nearer to the A27 – so what exactly is their problem?

Speaking as a woman of ‘a certain age’, I was over the moon to discover this stables and school when I decided last year that I’d like to ride again. The school was recommended to me by an acquaintance and I, in turn, have recommended it to others.

When I was young, I did ride a little but in my day it was usually the ‘hang on and hope’ method of learning. Julia Richards is a very fine instructor, who pays great attention to her pupils’ safety and ultimately their enjoyment.

It would be a great pity if she were not allowed to continue offering this wonderful service. I would miss it dreadfully as, I am sure, would the many children who spend many delightful hours learning horsemanship in the school holidays.

I think the people of Crossbush need to realise that they live in a beautiful rural environment which is ideal for a riding establishment, too. The school interferes with nobody and I hope it will go from strength to strength.
