Fines for Eastbourne cyclists a potential income stream

I was ‘delighted’ to read that not a single errant seafront cyclist has been issued with a fine in the last two years (Eastbourne Herald, May 29).

Having recently counted 15 cyclists in just one hour flouting the regulations, it is ‘gratifying’ to conclude that Eastbourne Borough Council must be so awash with cash that they can afford to ignore such a potential income stream that could potentially have netted £7,500 (15 x £500 fine) in one single hour.

Just think how much could be raised each year.

With council coffers apparently overflowing, presumably we can all therefore look forward to a reduction in next year’s Council Tax!
