First charity fun run at Lodge Hill

Eighty competitors helped celebrate the completion of Lodge Hill’s new All Ability Adventure Trail and in doing so raised £550 for the Lodge Hill Charitable Trust & the Alzheimer’s Society, though this figure only relates to funds raised on the day, without sponsorships.

The run in Pulborough was started by Johnny Barclay, former Sussex County Cricket captain and MCC President, now Director of Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation.

The route followed the 1K adventure trail that wends its way through the 32 acre wooded site.

Competitors chose between a 10K Race and a 3K Fun Run.

Both followed the trail’s off-road “Perfo” artificial surface within Lodge Hill’s grounds, designed to be suitable for wheelchair use.

Taking advantage of good running weather competitors were cheered on by friends & family.

The winner of the 10K race was Fay Cripps followed in by Steve Kavanagh & Natasha Swan who were second & third respectfully.

Lisa May, CEO of Lodge Hill Trust, said, “It was great to see the new trail being used & enjoyed by ‘runners’ of all ages & abilities.

The trail is an exciting addition to our ‘activities4all’ and is now available for visiting groups as well as day users by prior appointment”.

Hannah Miller, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society, said, “We are delighted to have been working with the team at Lodge Hill and are very grateful for all the time and energy they have put into organising the Lodge Hill Race and Fun Run in aid of both Lodge Hill and Alzheimer’s Society.

“As a charity we rely on the generosity of local fundraisers, and events like this help us support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow”.
