First-class music making at Farlington

The concert opened with the Concert Orchestra’s confident playing, followed by the Telemann Strings with a pretty arrangement of Albinoni’s famous ‘Adagio’.

There was then a complete contrast with the junior girls of the Samba Band playing ‘Samba Carnevalesco’, complete with Mrs Stearns on whistle.

We were then treated to the Junior Choir singing ‘I Believe I Can Fly’, ably directed by Olivia Middleton, a member of the Sixth Form. The Tudor Consort and Rock Band followed and the first half was brought to an enjoyable close by SKATZ, the members of which each ran onto stage wearing a black glove to perform some Lloyd Webber.

The second half opened with Farlington’s own very pink-looking GLEE! who performed ‘Roar’ along with some dance moves.

The Guitar Ensemble, comprising a very wide age range, and Wind Quintet played ‘Caterete’ and an arrangement of ‘Hey Jude’. Aristoskatz treated us to ‘The Windmills of Your Mind’, followed by the Flute Choir with an extract from Handel’s Fireworks Music. Razzmajazz played ‘Blue Panther’ by McGill, and the evening was rounded off by two pieces from Farlingtonic.

In the second of these, the whole audience were invited to join in, to give the closing bars of ‘Ill Wind’, Flanders and Swann’s spoof of Mozart’s Horn Concerto.

It was thoroughly enjoyable evening, as shown by the very enthusiastic response from the audience throughout. Congratulations to Mrs Stearns and Mrs Thomas, all the peripatetic music teachers, parents and, of course, all the girls who made it such a successful concert.
