Colin Henderson, after 38 years of showing his wisdom, wonder and wit in his inspirational teaching of English and History at CPS, treated staff, pupils and many invited guests to a delightful celebration in words and music.

Short, sharp, colourful performances ranged from juggling and joking, to quiet prose and the assembled company’s hearty rendition of the ‘Hallelujah Chorus.’

There was a wonderful atmosphere in the chapel, a true expression of the genuine warmth and respect we all felt for Colin, who retired at the end of last term and is already much missed.

Four past Headmasters, Alan Wyatt (1978-1988), Malcolm Keppie (1988-2000), Michael Roulston (2000-2008) and Robin Gainher (Summer Term 2008), as well as current Head, Michael Wilson, and Anthony Townsend, Chairman of the Governing Body, were amongst the honoured guests who enjoyed a most delicious lunch afterwards.

It was very appropriate that Colin’s ‘Music, Words and Waffle’ took place in the Keppie building (named after Malcolm Keppie), followed by a sit down lunch in the Roulston building (named after Michael Roulston). It was a lovely occasion, bringing together both former and current staff, as well as current pupils.

It was an original and fitting way to celebrate a very special man.
