Flats and floods

Further to Sonia Simons’ letter (Gazette, November 28), I wish to reassure her that the question of adequate drainage provision was taken into account prior to determination of the application at 135 Wick Street by members of the council’s development control committee who voted in favour of the proposal.

The impact on drainage resulting from four flats was considered comparable with the existing use of the property as a four-bedroom dwelling.

While Mrs Simons may have preferred to see a lower number of flats, the council cannot control when applications are submitted by third parties and has to judge each application on its own merit.

While it is recognised that the shop falls within a retail parade, it is vacant, contributing little to the local community, but, hopefully, now will provide four homes.
