"Flower circus is a waste of money"

CAN I suggest that Rustington Parish Council chairman Sue Lines wakes up and smells the coffee ("Flowers before people anger", Gazette, February 4)?

Is she not in touch with the people of Rustington?

We don't want our council tax going towards flowers, we would rather that money be invested in our people, with maybe some consideration for, say, some leisure facilities for the people of Rustington?

I would suggest that if she actually took the time to listen to the majority of people in Rustington, she would soon discover that we find it ludicrous that 7,000 of our money is put into flowers ahead of our people. I'm sorry, but she is simply out of touch with what us residents want.

I read with interest her strong letter to the gentleman who dared to challenge the council a few weeks back, when he asked about the opening of car parks and the lack of support from the grounds staff for a charity event.

No doubt we would have rolled out the red carpet and dedicated extra hours from our staff should that event have been the South East In Bloom judging?

I'm sorry, Mrs Lines, but this flower circus and blatant waste of our money needs to stop and our focus and energy should be put into something more worthwhile, such as investing in our youngsters' future and well-being by providing leisure facilities, or maybe even investing in some local charities and organisations who are far more hard-working and deserving.

To use your very own phrase: "Shame on you".
