Gas works in Sackville Road are inconvenient

Regarding the news item in the Bexhill Observer of March 11, page nine ('˜Gas Work Upsets Town's Traders'). The spokeswoman for Southern Gas Networks states: 'We complete our planned works within timescales agreed with local authorities'.

So, Rother District Council believes it is acceptable to allow this major disruption to business for five months (January 24 - June 24)?

In addition the (nameless) spokeswoman stated that the works would cause ‘minimum disruption to residents, road users, businesses and traders’.

On the contrary, the action of Rother District Council in authorising this work and the inaction and total lack of urgency by the contractors in completing this work, has caused major disruption.

I have yet to receive the courtesy of a response to my letter of February 21 to Rother District Council regarding this.

This work must be completed as a matter of extreme urgency and I invite the council officers who authorised this work and representatives from Southern Gas Networks to visit Sackville Road (if they can find a parking space!) and see for themselves the dire consequences of their actions.

We are seeking a rate free period plus compensation for all businesses affected by these works.
