We are encouraging residents to have their say, via the council’s website, before the consultation closes on June 12.
We believe the closure of the Worthing site on Thursday and Friday (and of other local sites on other days), coupled with the sites shutting at 4.30pm all year round, would have many unwanted consequences.
The same can also be said for imposing charges for the disposal of so-called “non-household” waste such as soil, hardcore and car and van tyres.
Residents would clearly be inconvenienced and discouraged from using the many recycling options at the sites. It is hard to see how the recycling rates will not be hit by these proposed changes.
There is also the threat of increased fly tipping with its associated health hazards and expensive clear-up costs.
The consultation now only has a few days to run and it is vital that as many residents as possible make their views known by visiting haveyoursay.westsussex.gov.uk.
