Glad flower box is back again

In October last year I expressed concern at the disappearance of one of the town's five green hexagonal flower boxes.

These had been installed during 2002 as part of the celebrations to commemorate 100 years of the town’s
charter of incorporation in 1902.

The flower box had disappeared from the corner of Devonshire Road and the Marina during last year’s refurbishment of that area.

The missing flower box was quickly located in RDC’s storage facility in Broad Oak Park.

But now thanks to the hard work of a number of RDC’s officers and my local independent councillor Doug Oliver, I’m pleased to report this missing flower box has been repositioned on the other corner of Devonshire Road and the Marina outside St Michael’s Hospice charity shop.

Well done to everyone involved in restoring this small piece of the town’s historical heritage and I am now looking forward to an extra splash of colour on that corner during the summer months.
