Together they’ve put together a One Day Golf Academy, a ‘taster session’ of skills and coaching that’s available for anyone aged 11 to 16, free of charge, on the 9-hole par 3 course at Cranleigh School.

The session will take place on Sunday June 1st and places are available on a first come, first served basis.

“I wasn’t a golfer until 4 years ago because I never had any opportunity to play the game and realise my talent,: said Tom, aged 26, who’s currently playing on The Euro Pro Tour.

“I played all the usual sports like rugby although I had always been interested in golf but had not had the opportunity to pursue it.

“Being talent spotted changed all that and changed my perceptions about what was possible. After I was spotted things just spiralled from there.

“Now I’m touring professionally and enjoying a successful career and I want to make sure that more young people enjoy the sport and everything it offers rather than discovering it late in life.”

The One Day Golf Academy will combine video training, skills like putting and chipping, swing techniques and games, all aimed at creating a fun day for younger players.

Steve Pidgeon, Manager of Cranleigh School Sports Centre, said: “We’re really keen to open up our green to Junior members. It’s an ideal sport for both boys and girls of all ages and it doesn’t have to be expensive, junior membership here is only £80 for the whole year.”

If you’re aged between 11 and 16 contact Steve to sign up for the One Day Golf Academy (01483 542125, [email protected] or [email protected] ).
