Grateful grand-dad's memory kept alive

I HAVE just read the article about the Angmering Village Flower Show (Gazette, July 9).

I was touched to read that the Ben Whiting Memorial Trophy was still being awarded for best hanging basket.

I still have the clipping taken from the Littlehampton Gazette dated Friday, July 1, 1994, when the trophy was first awarded to a Margaret Forrest, pictured with Barbara Custance and my dad Derek Whiting.

I also read that this was the first year the show was hosted by Peter Blake and one of the class winners was an Anna Burtenshaw.

Could it be the same Anna Burtenshaw who is the show's secretary now?

The reason for this letter, as I'm sure readers are wondering, is that Ben Whiting was my grand-dad.

He died on June 10, 1993, and is still missed by me every day.

I am truly touched that his memory is allowed to live on in something he loved doing.
