Grateful gust

I was walking down Mill Road when a great gust of gratitude swept over me – for all the good things Arundel has offered these last two weeks.

Alongside the stream were new posters on the trees from the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, telling us about the voles, the coots and moorhens, and butterflies, etc, to look out for.

In particular, the Arundel Festival was full of fun, but also deep feeling.

On the first Saturday evening the ‘pop-up’ choir so deftly rehearsed by Deirdre Christiansen was a feast of First World War songs, plus soldiers’ letters telling of the unbelievable Christmas Eve truce.

Then, the kitchen of 57 Maltravers Street was full to the brim with inspiring speakers five times, and the 64 venues on the Gallery Trail catered for all tastes.

But my favourite was the Theatre Trail; my £30 season ticket got me into all eight plays, and all left me glowing; good value – less than a ticket at Chichester.

A big thank-you to all who put the festival together so well.
