Great sadness over loss of a piece of Eastbourne history

I read with great sadness that it is proposed to demolish the TJ Hughes building and replace it with something like the illustrated block on your front page click here to read.

Having just read Bill Bryson’s Notes From A Small Island where he despairs of how replacing old buildings with new ones often deprives an area of character.

The building has character and history and it would be great if part of the façade could be kept.

Another comment on the proposed development: balconies are great but not as proposed. This design leaves the living room dark with need for electric lighting.
