Only 1700 of these prestigious awards are made globally each year.

The prize was presented by the Headteacher, Nick Wergan, who “was delighted to recognise such a deserving and dedicated student with such a celebrated award; they epitomise our ethos of highest expectations and commitment to learning, and are a great role model for the whole school.”

The student who best fulfilled the remit of the prize following AS examinations in summer 2013 was Yewande Ogunjimi .

From the onset of her Sixth Form College career when Yewande entered our Boarding House we have been impressed by her intellectual ability and approach to independent learning.

This summer she attained 5 A grades at AS in Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. She is a bright and enthusiastic student who demonstrates a conscientious approach to learning that makes her stand out amongst her peers.

She is determined to succeed at the highest level and matches her own high expectations of herself with consistent endeavour and a strong work ethic. While in class she is always the first to share her methodology and subject knowledge.

A testament to Yewande’s time management skills is that she is able to balance a dedicated and focused approach to her academic studies whilst partaking in a diverse array of work experience, wider reading and extra-curricular activities relevant to her aspiration to read Engineering at Cambridge.

Two further students who are also embarking on their final year in Steyning Sixth Form College were highly commended.

Freddie Lewis and Mark Tolson have taken the challenge of A Levels in their stride both gaining 5 A grades at AS in Year 12.

We are confident that they will be successful in their pursuit of degree courses at the highest level in 2014.
