Heart goes out to Worthing's BHS staff

My heart goes out to the staff of BHS. Philip Green really has a lot to answer for and I sincerely hope this issue is dealt with competently, without further resort to public money being paid to Mr Green.

Unbelievably, he is the prime creditor and could receive £30m plus on top of the £1bn he has taken from BHS over the years.

Our town needs vibrant stores and while BHS might not have fitted in this category in its later years - it is essential to our town, for both jobs and a retail outlet with reasonable prices for those who prefer to shop in the real world and not just on the internet.

Our council could and should grasp this opportunity to create a vibrant shopping mall, using any franchises already in their possession and include restaurants, eateries, artistic craft opportunities and fun outlets as we currently find in Chichester. This would pave the way for further imaginative and entrepreneurial use of the sites in the western area of Montague Street.

Let’s pull together with ideas for an attractive and welcoming town.
